To obtain a Guard Card in the state of California, you need to go through an 8-hour “Power to Arrest” training course. After the training, you need to pass the examination before you can get your Guard Card. You can attend an in-person or online training course organized by a BSIS-certified training facility.
In total, there’s a 40 hour training requirement for every applicant. Broken down, this involves 8 hours of training for pre-licensing courses, 16 hours of continued security officer courses that must be completed within 30 days from the issuance of the guard card, and another 16 hours of security guard training on elective courses that must be completed within 6 months from the issuance of the guard card to complete the 40 hour course requirements.
BSIS usually processes new applications within 30-60 days, but it can be as few as 3-5 days if your information is correct and you have a clean background.
